* Complete the ESC on-line sub application which is HERE.

 

* Have both a state a federal background check. All background checks MUST  go electronically to ODE. The SCOESC completes background checks at the Glenwood office Monday through Friday from 8 until 4. If subs choose to have background checks elsewhere then they MUST obtain a copy of the results to provide to the ESC.

 

* Provide the ESC with official transcripts from an accredited college/university reflecting a bachelor’s degree. Please note: these documents must also be uploaded into a Department of Education profile, which is set up in the next step.

 

* Apply for a substitute teaching license through ODE using our ESC IRN # 125658. Applicants select the type of substitute teaching license based on the post secondary degree they hold. Information on the types of sub teaching licenses can be found HERE. 

 

* Applicants must have an OH/ID Account and a Department of Education profile (formerly known as a SAFE account). Information on how to set up an OH/ID Account and a Department of Education profile can be found HERE.

 

* Once an OH/ID Account and a Department of Education Profile is set up, an application for the substitute license can be made using THESE DIRECTIONS.

RETURNING substitute teachers must complete the following requirements:

* RENEW a substitute teaching license through ODE using our ESC IRN # 125658. Applicants must have an OH/ID Account and a Department of Education profile (formerly known as a SAFE account). Information on how to set up an OH/ID Account and a Department of Education profile can be found HERE.  

 

* Once an OH/ID Account and a Department of Education Profile is set up, an application for the substitute license can be made using THESE DIRECTIONS.

PLEASE NOTE: Returning substitutes who skip a year subbing must complete ALL of the steps for NEW subs.
