The South Central Ohio Educational Service Center is participating in the 2020 Scioto Gives fundraising event, to benefit an endowment fund for its gifted services program.
Scioto Gives is hosted each year by The Scioto Foundation, offering a one-day challenge for area non-profits to collect donations, with up to $50,000 in matching funds available this year. The event assists local non-profit organizations with an annual endowment fund drive, and encourages other non-profit organizations to establish their own endowment fund. It also helps smaller grass-roots organizations accept online donations, and encourages donor gifting because of the matching dollars available.
The South Central Ohio ESC Gifted Services Program has participated in Scioto Gives since 2014, increasing its collected contributions each year.
The Gifted Services Department serves 14 local school districts and provides programs that individual school districts likely could not provide alone; even to students who are not necessarily identified as “gifted." Programs include Artist-in-Residencies, a Youth Art Month Exhibition, Memory Project, Visually Literate Regional High School Art Exhibition, High School Academic Competitions, Middle School and Jr. High Quiz Bowl Tournaments, Scioto County Honors Music Festival, Youth MAX Leadership Training, Scioto County Science Day, District Mock Trial, Scioto County Spelling Bee, Mentorship Program, and a Summer Enrichment Scholarship Program.
“The Scioto Gives Program will provide funds to help support the future of our programs; giving through this program is an investment in the future. We must still continue to raise funds for our immediate needs to keep our programs running, but the endowment fund will enable us to build stability for our programs in the future. We are very thankful for those who so generously donate to our programs. We’re also grateful to the Scioto Foundation for creating the Scioto Gives Program, which provides a wonderful opportunity for the community to make an investment in our future,” ESC Gifted Services Coordinator Sharee Price said.
This year’s Scioto Gives event will be Oct. 15, and qualifying donations must be made on that day between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. to be counted toward the agency’s goal. Donations can be made on Oct. 15 by credit card online (www.sciotogives.org) or by check in the office – located at 303 Chillicothe Street, in Portsmouth.
A donation link is available on the Scioto Gives website now, but please be aware that only donations made on Oct. 15 between the hours of 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. will be eligible for matching funds.
