The Washington-Nile School District and South Central Ohio Educational Service Center have completed the second year of the district’s Washington-Nile Summer Learning Academy program.

Hosted at West Middle School on June 5-6, in West Portsmouth, the purpose of the academy is to provide staff with professional development aligned to district improvement goals.  Teachers are required to complete a certain number of professional development credit hours to maintain their teaching license.

“This year Washington-Nile was able to utilize in house expertise to provide professional learning sessions.  Attendance by staff was high and session evaluations indicate sessions were well planned, interactive, informative and useful,” said Washington-Nile School District Curriculum Coordinator Alison Sayre.

Teachers enrolled to participate in sessions, covering topics such as value added, teacher and building reports, writing, and more. ESC Curriculum Supervisor Kara Copeland and Director of Technology Evan Mercer hosted the academy’s session on the Google Classroom feature.

“There are multiple Google programs and systems they can embed into their instruction. Google Classroom really has a lot of great perks to it. They can develop forms that can be graded automatically and exported under Progress Book. There are just so many things that can happen,” Copeland said.
