Published on July 30, 2018
2018 Back to School MagazineThe South Central Ohio Educational Service Center has announced its annual 2018 Back to School magazine is now available for free at local schools and retailers.

The free 2018 magazine is sponsored by the South Central Ohio ESC and Shawnee State University, featuring articles and photos from Bloom-Vernon, Clay, Green, Manchester, Minford, New Boston, Northwest, Portsmouth, Scioto County Career Technical Center, Sciotoville, South Central Ohio ESC, Valley, Vern Riffe School, Washington-Nile, and Wheelersburg schools. Also included in this year’s magazine are feature articles on college readiness, free and reduce lunches, and the Summer Scholarship program; as well as local school directory and the districts’ calendar.

“The South Central Ohio Educational Service Center is excited to highlight our member districts and the great things accomplished for the area students,” said ESC Superintendent Sandy Mers. “The districts highlighted in this magazine are collaborative in nature and focus on students. We have many talented students within our area. You will find the arts highlighted through musicals, choral performances, and fantastic creations of sculpture, photography, and others.”

Last year’s debut issue was available at local school districts and retailers, and quickly flew off the shelves. This year’s issue will be available for free at area schools, Portsmouth Public Library, South Central Ohio ESC in New Boston, Walmart in New Boston, and Kroger locations in Portsmouth and Wheelersburg.

A free digital copy will also be available to download on the Shawnee State University website, at www.shawnee.edu.

“In many ways, a college education begins long before a student steps on our campus at Shawnee State University,” Dr. Jeff Bauer, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs at Shawnee State University, said. “We value the partnerships we have with regional school districts and continue to look for ways we can work together to instill a passion for learning and prepare students of all ages for future success. That includes supporting efforts to communicate with parents about programs offered throughout the K-12 school system – and beyond as students transition to college life. We’re proud supporters of the ESC Back to School magazine and hope parents find it useful.”
